American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009

As part of an effort to reduce dependence on foreign sources of energy, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 provides a tax credit to help offset the costs of making energy efficiency improvements to your home.

The amount of the credit is equal to 30% of the installed cost of the qualifying products, up to a total of $1,500.00.

A tax credit is subtracted directly from the total amount you owe on your personal income taxes. For example, if you owe $2,000.00 on your taxes, a tax credit of $1,500.00 will reduce your tax bill to only $500.00 (be sure to check with your tax advisor on how to best take advantage of the tax credit).

To qualify for the tax credit, you must install a qualifying high efficiency comfort system between 1/1/2009 and 12/31/2010.

Combine the tax credit with an FPL rebate and, depending on the time of year possibly a manufacturer rebate, you are obtaining a great savings on a new high efficiency system.

If you have been considering upgrading your existing air conditioning and heating system to a more energy and environmentally friendly system, now is the time to act. Get your share of the stimulus money before it runs out.

Request a free estimate from our comfort consultants who will evaluate your home and determine what system would best match your requirements and your lifestyle.

Example of a Qualifying Energy Star System Installation
Contract Price$5,000.00
Less FPL Rebate-375.00
Net you owe$4,625.00
Tax credit 30% of $5,000-1,500.00 (Savings on 2010 taxes if you owe at least $1,500)
Actual cost of unit:$3,125.00 after tax credit (37 ½ % cost savings)

Goodbye to R-22

January 1, 2010 starts a new era in the air conditioning industry. Federal regulations will no longer allow manufacturers to produce air conditioning, heating or refrigeration equipment that utilizes R-22 refrigerant.

This is a result of the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990, which require signatory nations to ultimately eliminate ozone-depleting substances.

The replacement ozone-friendly refrigerant is R-410, also known as Puron. Manufacturers have been using this refrigerant since 1996.

The production of new R-22 refrigerant for servicing will be capped at a 75% reduction in 2010 as compared to how much was produced in 1989, the base year. There will be a 90% reduction in 2015 and a 99.5% reduction in 2020. These caps in production of R-22 are only for newly manufactured refrigerant.

Refrigerant that has been recovered, recycled or reclaimed has no caps on it and it can be used forever.

If your current air conditioning system uses R-22, rest assured there should be enough R-22 for servicing it throughout its useful life. We do see the price of R-22 rising as the production caps take effect and supply and demand dictate price.

We recover the R-22 refrigerant from existing systems, as they are replaced and ship it back to a reclamation facility.
